University Don Charges Students on Skill Acquisition

A university don, Mr. Balogun Idowu,  an associate lecturer, Department of Geography and Planning of  the University of Lagos, has encouraged youths to acquire technologically-driven skills to improve their well-being and contribute meaningfully to the society.
He gave the charge while delivering a keynote address tagged: ‘What next?’ at the 15th valedictory service of Kristbethel College, Lagos.

‘’You must continually acquire new skills alongside academics because digital evolution is the reality now. Acquiring skills embedded in technological advances guarantees that if and where traditional academic training and its reward fail, the skills will become handy,’’ he advised.
According to him, students must also learn to be time cautious, multitask, and avoid frivolities, and  ungodly association, which he said are hindrances to accomplishing goals in life.
Mrs. Christiana Ojo, proprietress of the college, stated that bringing up a child in this 21st century is highly demanding, tasking and challenging compared to past centuries, noting that the average parent needs Godly wisdom and wise counsel to excel in holistically bringing up a child.
Ojo called on parents in Lagos to never allow quest for survival, tight schedule and the environmental challenges in the state to keep them away from parental responsibilities, adding that they must learn to monitor their children to know the kind of pictures and movies they watch, their movements and the kind of friends they keep.
